This Kenyanthropus platyops skull is a replica of an early huminid skull. The originial Kenyanthropus platyops skull was discovered by Meave Leakey and her team in 1998 west of Lake Turkana, Kenya. K. platyops is described in the March 2001 issue of Nature as a new genus dating back to the middle Pliocene, 3.5 MYA. The age of this Kenyanthropus platyops skulll challenges A. afarensis "Lucy" as the direct ancestor of modern human. The skull replica is a great educational tool for many areas of study, including comparative anatomy.
