The P97 PRO PPH trainer module is used to simulate postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and can be easily incorporated into the P90 PRO and P90 BASIC birth simulator.
This module may only be used in conjunction with the P90 PRO or P90 BASIC birth simulators. The PPH module makes an affordable and versatile addition to your P90 PRO and BASIC birth simulator to enhance the skills and safety of medical professionals in obstetrics for postpartum care and the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage.
Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is an obstetric emergency where heavy bleeding occurs after delivery. According to the WHO, PPH is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality. Each year about 14 million women worldwide suffer from PPH. Severe bleeding after birth can be fatal for the new mother within hours if she is not diagnosed and treated. To improve PPH outcomes, it is vital that obstetric and healthcare professional teams have training in providing prompt treatment and care of postpartum hemorrhage.
The PPH simulator focuses on the following three causes of postpartum hemorrhage:
Uterine atony (tone)
Tears and ruptures (trauma)
Retinated placental tissue (tissue)
The P97 Pro PPH module was developed in collaboration with Dr. Martin Neuss, M.D., from Bethesda hospital in Hamburg to provide training in the following skills, both for individuals and teams:
Diagnosis of uterine atony by abdominal examination. By adjusting your scenario settings, the P97 PRO module can simulate various levels of uterine tone. Both an atonic uterus and a contracted uterus can be simulated and adjusted using a squeeze bulb. With the P97 PRO module an atonic uterus feels soft, boggy and enlarged, while a contracted uterus feels harder and can tighten to a smaller size.
Practice in both fundal massage and bimanual uterine compression.
Suturing of vaginal tears. The rupture inserts are replaceable.
360-degree cervical visual inspection. The cervix has a realistic post-childbirth size and softness.
Manual removal of a retained placenta. Three residual pieces can be placed in the uterus to provide training in the required medical procedure, like uterine curettage.
Intrauterine balloon tamponade. The uterus cavity is big enough to accommodate the placement of a Bakri balloon.
Uterine packing with gauze.
Presentation of severe obstetric hemorrhage cases. The blood reservoir can take a volume of up to 3L. The flow rate is adjustable and up to 400 ml/min.
Blood loss estimate. The volume scale on the blood reservoir can help trainees improve their skills in estimating blood loss.
Bladder catheterization. A urinary catheter can be inserted. No fluid drainage is required.
Uterine compression suture techniques e.g., B-Lynch, Haymann, Pereira, Cho and Ouabha can be demonstrated on the separate foam uteri.
Unique simulation features of the PPH trainer P97 Pro module:
From the abdominal wall through the vaginal canal to the uterus, the P97 PRO module offers a unique texture in addition to a lifelike haptic feedback thanks to SKINlike high-quality silicone.
Three independent hemorrhage sites: uterine, cervical and vaginal bleeding.
Simultaneous multiple hemorrhages possible.
Suturing of vaginal tears.
Realistic after-childbirth cervix.
Direct feedback on the treatment of an atonic uterus.
Major severe PPH scenarios can be simulated: blood loss up to 3,000 ml and/or a blood flow rate of up to 400 ml/min.
Removal of a retained placenta. The placenta is made of silicone for a realistic feel and softness.
The trainer provides accurate anatomy, including ischial spines, pubic bones and sacrum.
The simulator does not require electricity, is extremely durable and is easy to set up.
