New in stock: Upgraded Catheterization Trainer P93 PRO now with SPC

3B Scientific GmbH

Now in stock: The newly upgraded 3B Scientific Catheterization Trainer P93 Pro now comes with a removable abdominal wall that enables training of suprapubic catheter (SPC) exchange and care.

A well-trained health care provider should be familiar with the fundamentals of insertion of a urethral and suprapubic catheter. Improper catheterization can lead to iatrogenic urethral injury, including incontinence, strictures, erectile dysfunction, infection, and even infertility.

Training for insertion of the urethral and suprapubic catheter should occur in a safe, simulated environment, where medical and nursing students can apply knowledge into hands-on experience.

The Benefits of Simulation

3B Scientific’s P93 Pro Catheterization Trainer set can be used to demonstrate and practice urethral catheterization in both female and male bladders. Recently, the 3B Scientific P93 Pro Catheterization Trainer has been upgraded with an SPC feature to allow for a suprapubic catheterization trainer in addition to urethral.

The easy-to-change genital inserts are made from a flexible material that mimics the realistic resistance and insertion depths that in-training student clinicians will encounter when inserting both urethral and suprapubic catheters.

Additionally, the P93 Pro can adjust the levels of urethral narrowing so that student clinicians can learn the different types of resistance that may experience when inserting urethral catheters.
The P93 Pro simulator has a transparent bladder that makes it possible to check whether the catheter has been correctly positioned. The student will know that if catheterization has been carried out correctly, fluid will flow accordingly.

Patient Safety Is Key

Clinicians with simulated experience in a catheter and suprapubic catheter insertion have more experience and confidence than those without prior hands-on experience.

It is essential for safe patient care that basic practical clinical skills be developed early in a health care provider's clinical training. Therefore, given the widespread use of urethral and suprapubic catheters, using training models for medical and nursing students, and residents will ultimately lead to fewer complications and better patient safety.

This catheterization trainer is carefully designed to establish the step-by-step catheterization procedure, emphasizing the key points of lubrication, the position of the male and female urethra, and the extent to which a catheter should be inserted.

As with any procedure, students must remember the importance of history taking before the insertion and the conditions and scenarios associated with increased risk of urethral injury.

The timing of simulated training sessions should also be considered. Given the risk of patient injury associated with the procedure, training sessions can be delivered just before the start of a student’s clinical rotation and before the start of a clinician’s training.
